Barnsley 1-2 Derby County

Last updated : 29 December 2013 By Rob Miles (BarnsleyBoy)

The Reds will welcome in the New Year bottom of the Championship, just like they did 12 months ago. But when Keith Hill was fired on the 29th December 2012, Barnsley had 21 points (five more than they have now), although they had lost one game more last year, having played two more.

It becomes more painful to write this with every passing week but Barnsley’s record now stands at one win in 11, two 25 matches, and eight in 37!

Today also marks the halfway point of the season. Barnsley’s record of 16 points from 23 matches is their worst since the 1986-87 season they also had 16 points from 23 matches, and had also won just three matches.

Barnsley conceded a first half goal for only the second time in six games, but The Reds have failed to score a first half goal in nine of their last 10 matches.

Barnsley have fallen 1-0 behind on 14 occasions this season and have NEVER come back to win. On only two occasions have they avoided defeat, the 1-1 draws with Reading and Ipswich.

One positive is that Danny Wilson got his first goal since returning to the Oakwell dugout. It was Barnsley’s first strike in three matches and managed to score from open play for only the second time in nine games.

It was also the first time Barnsley have scored a second half goal for nine games.

Danny Wilson has now won just one of his last 12 matches as Barnsley manager, and he has failed to win any of his first three since returning.

The Reds have now conceded 23 goals at home this season, four more than the next worst side (Doncaster) and have won just twice at Oakwell all the season, the last of which was seven home matches ago.

Tomasz Cywka has now scored eight goals for The Reds, but only one has come in a victory and all three this season have been in losing causes.

Derby made it eight wins from nine games. This was their eighth away victory of the season (four more than they won in the whole of 2012-2013) and the most they have gained since they last won promotion to the Premier League, 2006-2007, when they won 12.
