Barnsley 1-2 Scunthorpe

Last updated : 29 November 2014 By Rob Miles (BarnsleyBoy)

Scunthorpe picked up a win at Oakwell for the first time in 55 years and only their third ever. It is the Iron’s first victory at Barnsley since a 1-0 win way back in March 1959.

Barnsley lost after going 1-0 up for the third time this season. It is the first time it has happened as many as three times since 2011-2012.

Today was The Reds’ fifth home league defeat of the season, the joint most in the division.

Paddy Madden’s brace for Scunthorpe also means Barnsley have now conceded 20 goals in their nine home games in League One, the worst record in the entire Football League.

They are yet to keep a league clean sheet at home this season, it is the first time The Reds have failed to have a shut out in any of their first nine home league matches since 1987-1988, when it took them until their tenth to record a shutout.

The Reds have now conceded two goals in each of their last three matches and in six of the past seven  and their goals against tally of 30 is only “beaten” by three of the four teams currently in the relegation zone.

On the other foot, Barnsley have managed to score in 11 games in a row in all competitions, their best run since netting in 16 successive games between 22nd December 2012 and 9th March 2013.

After going four games without defeat, winning three, The Reds have now lost back-to-back games for the fourth time this season.

Barnsley have opened the scoring in six of their last eight matches, but they have gone on to win just three.

Barnsley conceded within a minute of scoring for the first time since the day they were relegated in April. Jean-Yves Mvoto netted in the 53rd minute at Middlesbrough and Lee Tomlin equalised a minute later.

Marcello Trotta netted on his home league debut, his first goal since March when he scored for Brentford.

Barnsley were behind at half time after taking the lead for the first time since January, against Blackburn.

Captain Martin Cranie picked up his fifth yellow card of the season and will now be suspended for Tuesday’s South Yorkshire derby against Doncaster.

Paddy Madden notched his first brace since January 2013 and his first for Scunthorpe.

The Iron are now unbeaten in their last six away matches, four of which they have won.
