Barnsley suffered back-to-back league defeats for the first time since April as Shrewsbury won at Oakwell for the first time in 44 years and for only the SECOND time ever!
Last weekend Barnsley conceded after just eight minutes, which was the earliest they had conceded a goal for 44 games. They beat that yesterday by falling behind after just six.
Barnsley conceded a goal in injury time for the second match in a row (following Charlie Goode’s Scunthorpe consolation in the midweek Johnstones Paint Trophy game) it is the first time they have conceded one in a league match for ten games. That was a 1-1 draw at Notts County in April. The last time it saw them lose a game was back when The Reds were a Championship side. Steve Cook’s goal for Bournemouth giving the Cherries a 1-0 win at Oakwell in March 2014.
Barnsley have now played three home league games this season, winning one, drawing one and losing one. More worryingly, they have managed only two shots on target in each of them and have scored just two goals. Only Blackpool (1) have scored less in front of their own supporters.
Barnsley’s goal difference is now –4. Only Peterborough out of the sides not in the relegation zone have a worse one (-5)
Shrewsbury won in League One for the first time this season and remain unbeaten on the road.
Jordan Clark who was released by Barnsley following relegation from the Championship scored their winner to ensure the Shrews scored more than once in a league game for the first time this season.
