A bolt from the blue by Jacob Burns eased the pressure on Barnsley coach Paul Hart by securing his side a 1-0 win over Blackpool.

The former Forest boss had seen his Yorkshire chargers tumble down the League One table following just one win in ten matches, but a 25-yard rocket from Australian Burns secured a much needed win against fellow strugglers Blackpool.

Barnsley were comfortably the better side in the first-half but wasted a string of good chances.

On-loan striker Michael Chopra was unlucky in the third minute with an excellent curling effort that flew just over, but fellow forward Mick Boulding should have done far better when put clean through on 14 minutes but his shot was weak and easily saved by Bradley Jones.

The Blackpool keeper then pulled off a great one-handed stop to keep out Chopra's rasping drive.

Both Boulding and Chris Shuker fluffed further openings before Barnsley got lucky when the normally lethal Scott Taylor volleyed into the side netting.

On 36 minutes Barnsley skipper Tony Vaughan saw his edge of the box shot slip through the grasp of Jones but clip the top of the bar.

Seconds later Blackpool sprang to the other end and only a magnificent double save from Ross Turnbull denied Jamie Burns.

The second half was more evenly contested. Simon Grayson side-footed wide for Blackpool when it looked easier to score, while Turnbull made another brilliant stop to deny Taylor.

The deadlock was finally broken 14 minutes from time when Burns picked up possession 25 yards out, and duly gave Jones no chance with a tremendous drive.
