Marc Roberts scored his first goal for Barnsley and Ashley Fletcher also netted as the Reds maintained their push for the Sky Bet League One play-offs by beating fellow contenders Coventry 2-0 at a rain-soaked Oakwell to move into seventh spot.
Fletcher should have put Barnsley ahead in the first minute, but his header from George Williams' sublime cross was palmed over by goalkeeper Reice Charles-Cook.
Nine minutes later, though, Charles-Cook saved from Lloyd Isgrove and the Reds took the lead from the resultant corner, with Roberts powerfully heading home Conor Hourihane's kick.
Coventry's first attempt on goal came after 18 minutes, with Adam Armstrong's 20-yarder, bringing out a fumbled save from Adam Davies.
A diving Charles-Cook then denied Hourihane, while John Fleck flashed a shot wide at the other end.
Josh Scowen and Harry Chapman were brought on by Barnsley at the break and it was the latter who nearly doubled the lead when his precision curler was tipped over.
Sixty seconds later, though, Barnsley did make it 2-0 when the Coventry custodian flapped at Hourihane's free-kick and the unmarked Fletcher was on hand to smash the ball home from close range.
Chapman nearly crowned the result with a brilliant solo effort, but he drilled a shot just wide after a pulsating run forward, while Tykes defender Alfie Mawson headed narrowly over at the death
