Prior to Saturday Barnsley had scored just one first goal in eight games, they now have three in the last two.
Devante Cole’s eighth minute effort was The Reds quickest goal since Jim O’Brien scored after four minutes against Millwall in February.
Cole scored his fourth league goal for the club; three of those have been in defeats.
Barnsley scored two goals in the opening quarter of an hour of a game tonight for the first time in four years. Adam Hammill netted in the fourth and 12th minute in a 3-3 draw at Bristol City in August 2010.
Barnsley have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their first six home league matches. It took until the eighth to keep one last season.
Notts County have only failed to score on two occasions in League One so far this campaign, and they drew both of those games 0-0.
They doubled the amount of away goals they have conceded this season. Prior to last night they had conceded just two on the road and Barnsley are the first home side to net twice against them.
They have now conceded five goals in two games; prior to this they had conceded just two in six. Barnsley are only the third side this season to net more than once against them.
Conor Hourihane who had previously hit six goals in seven games was enduring a five game drought before last night’s strike.
The last time The Reds lost after taking a 2-0 lead was back in December 2011 when they were leading Ipswich 2-0 at half time but lost 5-3. However the last time they threw away a 2-0 lead at all was in February, again against Ipswich when they ended up drawing 2-2.
Just 8,596 were in attendance at Oakwell, the club’s lowest home crowd since 7,869 attended the 2-1 win over Brighton in March 2013.
Barnsley have now won two and lost four of their opening six league matches at Oakwell. It is the first time they have lost four of their opening six home league matches since the Premier League season of 1997-1998 when they had this exact same record. They had also conceded 14 goals in those six games 17 years ago… as they have now.
It is 21 years since they last lost four of their opening six Football League home games.
Barnsley have now scored in the first half on six occasions this season. Only once have they gone on to score in the second half too.
Notts County have now won five games in a row for the first time in four years, and are unbeaten in 10, also their best run since 2010.
