A second successive comprehensive League One victory and third overall in four outings moved the Reds up to fifth in the table.
Barnsley have won back to back league games for the first time since February when they defeated Hull then Middlesbrough and it is only their second run of successive league victories in 17 months.
They have won back to back league games by scoring as many as three goals in each game for the first time since March 2021 (v Bournemouth and Wycombe)
Barnsley have netted as many as three goals in a league game on three occasions this season, their most in a campaign since 2020-2021 (four occasions)
Remarkably it is the first time Barnsley have gone 3-0 up in successive league games since December 2001 (v Sheffield Wednesday and Walsall)
In all competitions Barnsley are on a run of three successive wins, their best run since a run of seven between February and March 2021.
They are unbeaten in four games (all comps) for the first time since the final game of 2020-2021 and first three of 2021-2022 (not including penalty shootouts) and are unbeaten now in five league outings for the first time since a run of 10 between February and March 2021.
Josh Benson opened the scoring with a screamer after 10 minutes, the third time he has scored Barnsley’s first goal of a game this season.
It gave Barnsley a half time lead for the fourth successive league game, the first time this has occurred since the final four of the 2015-2016 League One season – including all three play-off games.
Both Devante Cole and James Norwood have scored in three out of Barnsley’s last four league games, only failing to do so against Port Vale.
Cole also assisted Norwood’s cheeky backheeled effort – out of the 16 goals Barnsley have scored so far in League One this season Cole and Norwood have involvement in nine – Cole scored 4 assisted 1, Norwood scored 3 assisted 1.
Cole is the second Barnsley player to both score and assist a goal in the same game this season after Josh Benson against Bristol Rovers.
This game marked the ten match stage of the season and Barnsley have 17 points, their most at this stage since their last League One campaign (19points) – they had also won half of their games at this point in that season.
Since the start of 2016 Barnsley have played 82 League One games (including playoffs) and have won 49 (59.8%)
There were no bookings in a Barnsley game for the first time this season and first time since the 15th March against Bristol City.
Barnsley have now lost only one of their last 32 home League One games (including play-offs), winning 21.
This was Barnsley’s seventh win of the season in all competitions, one more than they managed in the whole of last season.
Barnsley are unbeaten in their last four Oakwell meetings with Charlton since a 6-0 hammering in 2013 (W2 D2)
The Reds have scored at least twice in all four meetings with this the first time they have netted as many as three against the Addicks in seven home meetings - a 3-0 win in 2008.
Since 1957 Barnsley have lost only three of 23 Oakwell clashes, winning 13.
Barnsley won this game despite having only 40% possession, the lowest amount of possession they have won a league game with since the first home game of last season when they defeated Coventry 1-0 despite having only 38%.
There were only four shots on target in the game and Barnsley scored with all three of theirs, it’s the lowest amount of on target shots in a Barnsley game since Stoke were the visitors to Oakwell in March (also 4)
Despite having one shot on target Charlton won eight corners, the most by an opponent at Oakwell since Reading at the start of April (also 8)

Charlton manager Ben Garner said:
“It was not good enough really. Between the two boxes we are but at both ends of the pitch it wasn’t good enough. We didn’t defend with enough intensity. The first goal was a wonder goal but to give the goals away, that we did in the second half, was disappointing.
“To create the amount of positions we got into, the opportunities we had, we had to score more goals. Football is played in the two boxes. Between the two boxes we are good but we have to be better at both ends of the pitch. That’s my responsibility, I’m not putting that on anyone else. It is my responsibility to improve it.
