Barnsley will have to go through a replay if they are to advance to the second round of the FA Cup following an incredible 3-3 draw with seventh tier side Horsham at Oakwell.
The Reds took the lead, fell behind, took the lead again and were pegged back to a draw by a side sitting in 8th place in the Isthmian League Premier Division who will now be looking to win on their own patch to progress to the second round for only the second time in their history - the only other occasion they have progressed that far was 2007-2008 when they went on to hold then League One outfit Swansea at home before losing the replay 6-2, Barnsley meanwhile went onto reach the Semi-Finals that season after dumping out both Liverpool and Chelsea.
Should Barnsley lose the replay it will be the first time they have failed to progress beyond the first round since 2015-2016 when they were eliminated by another non-league side in the form of National League Altrincham.
Barnsley have scored at least three times in an FA Cup tie for the third successive season following a 5-4 win over Barrow in the third round of 2021-2022 and 3-0 v Crewe in the second round of 2022-2023.
They have conceded at least three times in an FA Cup tie for the third successive season following a 3-0 third round exit to Derby last season and the aforementioned Barrow tie in 2021-2022.
There were four first half goals in a Barnsley game for the first time since February when Barnsley led Derby 3-1 at half time.
Barnsley have faced non-league teams on 10 occasions now in the FA Cup and have only progressed without the need of a replay on two occasions (v Netherfield in 1964 and Bromsgrove in 1994) They have been eliminated on three of the previous nine occasions (v Rhyl in 1970, Marine in 1975 and Altrincham in 2015)
This is though the first FA Cup tie Barnsley have drawn to force a replay since the third round of 2016-2017 when they drew 0-0 with Blackpool at home and lost the replay 2-1 after extra time.
Following Max Watters giving Barnsley the lead Horsham equalised from the penalty spot, the fifth time Barnsley have conceded a goal from a penalty in 2023-2024 - two less than they conceded in the whole of 2022-2023.
This was the first Barnsley game to be 2-2 at half time since the 31st October 2017 at Burton Albion - the Reds went on to win 4-2.
It is the first time a Barnsley game has finished 3-3 since the 2010-2011 season when it happened on two occasions - at Bristol City and Leeds United. It is the first home 3-3 since Boxing Day 2007 against Stoke.
Barnsley made it 2-2 in first half injury time from a fantastic effort from Fabio Jalo, the first time Barnsley have scored in the additional time at the end of the first half since the first round of the League Cup back in August.
It was Jalo's third senior goal for the club, all of which have come in cup competitions having netted a brace at Doncaster in the EFL Trophy last season.
Barnsley have lost only one of their last four Friday fixtures (W2 D1 L1)
Corey O'Keeffe set up Barnsley's third goal scored by Mael de Gevigney to give him four for the season - now Barnsley's leading assister of 2023-2024, one ahead of Barry Cotter, Nicky Cadden, Josh Benson and Max Watters.
Barnsley have now drawn three of their last four matches (W1) having drawn only two of their first 15 fixtures.
This was the fourth time Barnsley have conceded as many as three goals at Oakwell this season, the same amount as the whole of 2022-2023.
The 4,463 attendance is Barnsley's highest in a cup tie in seven such matches since the FA Cup tie against Barrow in January 2022 (4,755)
Barnsley have had have a total of 51 shots in their past two matches compared to a total of 11 for their opponents (Fleetwood and Horsham) but have drawn both matches and only 21 have been on target
