Kevin Betsy's individual brilliance was not enough to ensure victory for promotion chasing Barnsley in a 3-3 thriller against a never-say-die Stockport side.
Betsy bagged a brace, set up Dutch team-mate Dean Gorre for the other goal; and could easily have ended the match with a double hat-trick.
But struggling Stockport kept plugging away and, after leading 2-1 at the break, thanks to two set-piece moves in the space of two minutes, the visitors snatched a share of the spoils with a late goal from Rickie Lambert.
It was County who had started brightly but Barnsley drew first blood with a glorious fifth minute strike from Betsy.
The home side had decided not to knock the ball out despite having their skipper Craig Ireland down injured, and Betsy used his pace to leave defender Rob Clare trailing in his wake before thumping home a fierce right foot shot from just inside the box.
Barnsley then wasted at least three good chances before Stockport drew level on 33 minutes.
Matt Heath pulled off to the far post to meet a deep free-kick and his downward header picked out captain James Goodwin who gave home keeper Sasa Ilic no chance with a left-foot drive.
Two minutes later Stockport were 2-1 ahead. Another deep far post cross resulting in a goal mouth struggle and Andrew Welsh produced a rising drive that again gave Ilic no chance.
It was all Barnsley for most of the second half, but Stockport keeper Boaz Myhill produced a string a magnificent saves before Barnsley eventually drew level.
Betsy this time was the provider, with Gorre supplying a cool finish from ten yards.
Betsy then put Barnsley in front 13 minutes from time, but Stockport punished a defensive error to secure a point from Lambert's 81st minute side-foot shot.
