This was Barnsley’s biggest home win since they beat Portsmouth 6-0 back in August 1999.
It is the first time the Oakwell faithful has seen five goals scored by The Reds in four years, when they defeated Leeds 5-2 in September 2010.
This is Barnsley’s biggest FA Cup win since they beat Crewe 6-1 87 years ago in 1927!
Incredibly it is the first time Barnsley have won 5-0 at home for almost 34 years to the day! They defeated Hull City by this scoreline on the 11th November 1980.
Sam Winnall netted his first ever professional hattrick and he is the first Reds player to hit a treble since Craig Davies scored four the last time Barnsley won 5-0, at Birmingham in September 2012.
Ironically his first ever treble comes against the club where he actually made his professional league debut, on loan from Wolves.
Winnall is the first Barnsley player to score a FA Cup hattrick since Craig Hignett notched a treble in a 4-1 victory over Bristol Rovers in February 1999.
It continues last season’s League Two top scorer’s red-hot recent form in front of goal. Winnall who scored just once in his first 12 appearances this season has now bagged seven in his last seven.
Barnsley led at half time for only the fifth time in 19 games this season.
It is only the second time they have led by two goals at the break. The 4-1 win over Gillingham back in August is the other one.
Barnsley secured back-to-back wins for the first time since March and have claimed successive clean sheets for the first time since April 2013.
Barnsley have opened the scoring in each of their last five matches but this is only the second time they have gone on to win.
Conor Hourihane has now scored nine goals in 19 appearances this season. This equals his entire goal tally for 2013-2014. He played 53 games last season.
Devante Cole completed the rout with his sixth goal for the club, The Reds have netted 30 goals so far this season, 23 of which have been scored by Winnall, Hourihane and Cole.
Barnsley have now scored in eight games in a row in all competitions for the first time since scoring in 16 successive games between December 2012 and March 2013.
With a crowd of 5,158 Oakwell saw the highest attendance on FA Cup First Round Saturday and the joint biggest win.
Burton suffered their heaviest defeat since a 7-1 reverse at Port Vale in April 2013.
After winning eight of their first nine matches this season they have now lost eight of the following 12 and are still winless since manager Gary Rowett left for Birmingham.
