Barnsley Get The Hudder Hand!

Last updated : 31 August 2013 By Rob Miles (BarnsleyBoy)

Barnsley finally secured their first win of the season and ensured that they did not go through the whole of August with a victory for the first time since 1992.

Chris O’Grady has now netted seven goals in his last seven league games at Oakwell, whilst also netting the winning penalty against Scunthorpe in the cup.

Two Barnsley strikers scored in the same match for the first time since the 12th March as Marcus Pedersen netted on his home league debut.

Mike Pollitt played back-to-back games for the first time since August 2009 but unfortunately could not prevent Barnsley’s run without a clean sheet stretching to six league games.

The goal he conceded means The Reds have conceded the most in the Championship (13), one more than Bournemouth (12) who actually occupy sixth place in the division. Only one team in the Football League has conceded more and that is League One Carlisle with 14 attempts finding the way into their net so far this season.

However Barnsley’s record of six goals scored is joint best in the bottom half- remarkable considering they failed to score in their first two league games.

Today’s victory was Barnsley’s first this season and only their second in 14 matches.12 seasons.

Huddersfield’s start to this league season LDWDWWWL is EXACTLY the same as their start to last season and by failing to win today they were unable to gain their best start to a season for 30 years.
