Barnsley get their pre-season friendlies off to a roaring start with a 4-1 win against the Western Football League Premier Division Champions Bideford.
Daniel Nardiello, Robbie Williams, Nathan Joynes and new signing Paul Hayes grabbed the goals for the Reds
Reds boss Andy Ritchie was pleased with the workout as he spoke to the Official Barnsley F.C site:
"We did ok to be fair even though we looked a little rung rusty.
"Bideford worked hard and gave us a strong test for the fist 50 minutes even though we were a little disappointed to concede a sloppy goal. We should have closed down the cross quicker and Nick Colgan probably should not have punched the ball clear but it was a great volley from the edge of the area.
"We should have had two or three before that.
"Daniel Nardiello opened the scoring for us when he raced onto a long ball before finished well. Robbie Williams got our second with a smashing volley from the edge of the area.
"There is a bit of an inquest going on about the third goal because Nicky Wroe is claiming it went straight in although Nathan Joynes is adamant he got a touch. Paul Hayes got the fourth when he diverted a shot from Neil Austin into the net.
"It was good to see Nardiello and Hayes get on the scoresheet early and it should settle them both down.
"It was a difficult first game and Bideford had only lost 2-1 against Brentford earlier in the week so they were no mugs.
"We did not pick up any injuries although we have a few sore feet because of the hard ground".
