Barnsley had gone 19 games without a draw but yesterday was their third in a row. The first time this has happened since November 2013.
Including the last encounter with Bristol City, Barnsley have conceded the first goal in nine matches, and have come back to rescue something from the game on only three occasions, two of them against Bristol City.
Remarkably this game followed the exact same pattern as the meeting between the two sides at Oakwell in October. Bristol scored first, fell 2-1 behind and then rescued a point.
Barnsley fell behind away from home for the first time in six matches.
Marlon Pack’s penalty after 13minutes was the earliest Barnsley have conceded in a game since Jason Kennedy’s 1st minute effort for Bradford back in October.
The Reds are now unbeaten in nine league matches (6 wins 3 draws), their longest unbeaten run for ten years when they went 13 without defeat.
There was a rare sight at Ashton Gate yesterday, a Barnsley first half goal (just). Jabo Ibehre’s 44th minute strike was only the seventh time Barnsley have scored before half time in their past 19 matches.
Ibehre has now scored in successive matches for the first time since November 2011 when he played for MK Dons.
Yesterday was the first time the 32 year old had started a match since January.
Cameron Stewart has now failed to finish on the winning side for nine matches.
Lee Johnson is the first Barnsley manager/head coach to be unbeaten in his first six league games in charge since Norman Hunter in 1980.
Barnsley are unbeaten in five on the road, their best streak away from Oakwell since they avoided defeat in each of their first five of the 2011-2012 season.
Barnsley are the first team to play Bristol City home and away this season and remain undefeated in both.
But Bristol City were the first team to score twice against Barnsley in nine matches.
Yesterday’s match lived up to the hype as once again a Bristol City/Barnsley clash brought goals. Another four yesterday means 47 have been scored in the last ten meetings with 30 in the last six at Ashton Gate.
Barnsley have now failed to win any of their last 14 visits to Bristol City, but this was the first time EVER both league meetings in a season have ended in draws.
The penalty awarded after Jean-Yves Mvoto’s clumsy tackle on Kieran Agard was the seventh in the past 10 meetings.
The Reds had three shots on target yesterday and scored from two of them.
