Barnsley won their first three visits to the Keepmoat Stadium but have failed to win any of the subsequent three, losing two.
Harry Forrester’s winner, six minutes from time was Doncaster’s 100th goal against Barnsley.
Mason Holgate’s 94th minute red card was Barnsley’s fourth sending off of the season so far.
It is the eighth red card in the last 17 meetings between the two sides.
Staggeringly, there has now been four red cards shown in the last five Barnsley matches, including in each of the last three.
Barnsley managed just one shot on target, their joint worst effort of the season. They also managed just one in the 2-1 defeat at Peterborough back in October. Devante Cole scored with it that day.
The Reds have won only two of their last eight league matches now, losing five of them.
They have lost each of their past three away matches and have failed to win on the road in five since the 1-0 win at Sheffield United in November.
Yesterday was only Barnsley’s fifth blank in 24 league matches, however they have lost both of their last two away games 1-0.
Barnsley went in at half time goalless for the second time in nine league matches. This is the sixth time it has happened in 2014-2015 and The Reds have gone on to win only twice.
Forrester’s winner arrived in the 84th minute, the sixth time Barnsley have conceded a goal in the last 10 minutes this season. Four of those have been decisive in determining the result.
Doncaster won at home for only the third time this season, they are now unbeaten in five league matches.
