Barnsley finally ended their 21 game away run without a victory in all competitions and thus became the 92nd and final side to win on the road in 2021-2022.
It was the Reds first victory away from Oakwell since a 1-0 success at Huddersfield on the 21st April 2021 – that result consolidated Valerien Ismael’s Barnsley in sixth place in the Championship, 10 months and 14 defeats later a 2-0 win at Hull City sees Poya Asbaghi’s side still rock bottom in 24th place and still nine points adrift of safety following Reading’s win over Birmingham.
Ironically this is the same amount of points they were off safety with 14 games left in 2020 – back then they had beaten Middlesbrough at home on the 22nd February and then Hull away on the 26th – something they have the chance to do the opposite way around this weekend!
As mentioned before Barnsley became the 92nd and final EFL to register a league away win in 2021-2022, it is the first season it has taken this long for all 92 teams to win away since 2018-2019 when Fulham (Premier League), Rotherham (Championship) and Oxford (League One) were still winless away by this date.
This was the first time Barnsley have won away from home in front of supporters since…. their last trip to Hull, a 1-0 victory in February 2020, their next away win after this was the first match back following lockdown, a 1-0 win at QPR in June 2020. Barnsley won 13 Championship away games behind closed doors.
A week and a half ago Barnsley had failed to open the scoring under Asbaghi (12 games) they have now done so in two of the last three matches.
This was only the third time Barnsley have opened the scoring away from home this season and have now won one (Hull), drawn one (QPR after being 2-0 up) and lost one (2-1 at Bristol City)
It is only the second time this season (along with the QPR match) in which Barnsley have netted more than once on the road and only the second away league clean sheet (also the 0-0 draw at Peterborough in November)
It is also only the second time (after QPR) that Barnsley have netted two first half goals and being 2-0 up at half time.
This is Barnsley’s biggest away win since a 3-1 win at Wycombe in March 2021.
This win took Barnsley to the 20 points mark after 32 games, the exact same amount of points after 32 games of 2019-2020….
Carlton Morris scored Barnsley’s second goal with a fantastic finish, it arrived after 47 minutes of the first half, the Reds first goal in first half injury time since Morris himself netted after 46 in a 2-1 defeat at Blackburn in December.
Morris has scored four league goals for Barnsley this season and they have arrived on 45+2, 45+1 44 and 45+2!
After also setting up the opener for Callum Styles, Morris is the first Barnsley player to score and assist in the same game since Alex Mowatt at QPR in March 2021.
This was the eighth game in which Styles has scored in for Barnsley and the seventh they have won (D1)
Barnsley are now undefeated in their last four trips to the KCOM, winning three with all three victories being accompanied with clean sheets.
Prior to this run they had lost four successive games at Hull however prior to that had lost only one of 10.
Home and away they have lost only one of the last five meetings – the Oakwell clash this season.
Barnsley committed 18 fouls, their most in a game this season

Hull manager Shota Arveladze said:
"Disappointed, very disappointed - especially first half.
"I wasn't expecting how slowly we played in that first half and that always makes it difficult.
"The boys, they know themselves. Sometimes you don't have to say too much. They are honest, nice boys and we did not play as a team. They don't need anyone to tell them that."
