Luton's woeful start to the season continued with a 3-2 defeat against ten-men Barnsley.
It was the Hatters' fourth consecutive defeat and they got off to the worst possible start when defender Russell Perrett put through his own goal after 20 minutes.
The Tykes gave Luton a lifeline three minutes before half time when Andy Holt brought down Steve Robinson.
Holt was duly sent off for the foul and Kevin Nicholls scored from the penalty spot. But straight from the kick off Mike Sheron put Barnsley back in front, finishing off a route one move with a low shot that went in off the post.
The veteran striker also hit the bar in the first half while Luton's Emmerson Boyce had an effort disallowed for offside.
The Hatters also had what looked like another good penalty appeal turned down when Chris Morgan climbed all over Tony Thorpe, referee Richard Beeby giving the free-kick inches outside the area.
Luton were rocked after 58 minutes when Dean Gorre found space between defenders and set up Bruce Dyer for an easy goal as the Hatters called in vain for an offside flag.
But Luton were rewarded in the 71st minute when Matthew Spring finished from close range after Andy Marriott blocked substitute Dean Crowe's diving header.
The over-eager Hatters floundered against Morgan and veteran Keith Curle as they went for the equaliser, and too often were caught offside.
Barnsley hit back well on the break and Isaiah Rankin missed a great chance to make it 4-2.
Tykes manager Steve Parkin praised his side afterwards saying: "We rolled up our sleeves and defended well and still managed to look bright when we were on the ball even though we were under pressure.
"We should have scored a couple more but it was a great performance and we showed tremendous team spirit."
