MK Dons 2-0 Barnsley

Last updated : 25 January 2015 By Rob Miles (BarnsleyBoy)

Barnsley suffered their first ever defeat at MK Dons.

Yesterday was the only the second time they have failed to score against the Dons in eight meetings.

There has now been 23 goals scored in MK Dons v Barnsley matches, 16 of which have come in the second half.

For the second game in a row Barnsley managed just one shot on target. This has now happened three times in the season, and Barnsley have lost all three games.

The Reds have won only two of their last nine league matches now, losing six of them.

They have lost four of their last five matches in all competitions and have lost each of their past five games on the road, failing to even score in any of the last three.

Yesterday was Barnsley’s sixth blank in 25 league matches.

Barnsley went in at half time goalless for the third successive match. This is the seventh time it has happened in 2014-2015 and The Reds have gone on to win only twice.

The Reds have failed to score a first half goal in any of their last five matches.

Barnsley, worringly, now sit just two points clear of the League One relegation zone. They have 29 points from their 25 matches this season, only seven points more than they had at this stage of last season in the Championship when they were eventually relegated.

They have lost 12 league matches so far, only Crewe, Colchester and Yeovil have lost more. They had lost 13 at this stage last season.

Dons top scorer, 18 year old Dele Alli struck his 12th goal in 30 appearances, and his seventh at home. He has now scored in both meetings between MK Dons and Barnsley this season.

The Dons have now won 10 of their 14 games at Stadium: MK this season and have now lost only one of their last 16 league matches, winning ten.
