Finally after eight successive league defeats Barnsley picked up three points for the first time since the 26th September.
By winning yesterday the Reds avoided equalling the club record of nine successive league defeats.
This win was only Barnsley’s sixth in 27 league matches.
Each of Barnsley’s last three wins in all competitions have been by a 2-1 score line. They have been involved in nine matches that have finished with that score this season.
Barnsley opened the scoring for the first time in seven matches and only the second time in the last 11.
Barnsley led a league game at half time for the first time in ten matches and only the fifth time this season.
For the second time this season Barnsley netted a very late winner and both have come in the side’s only two away wins, Lewin Nyatanga in the 90th minute at Millwall and Kevin Long in the 89th yesterday
Long’s effort was the ninth goal scored by a Barnsley defender in all competitions this season; the strikers have only scored seven, six by Sam Winnall (one Conor Wilkinson)
Conor Hourihane’s 30th minute strike was the first goal Barnsley have scored before half time in eight matches. Only 14 of their 32 goals scored so far this season have been in the first half.
They have now gone 11 games in all competitions without a clean sheet, their worst run since August- November 2013 (14)
Since winning six in a row back in March, Barnsley have won only five of the subsequent 26 league matches.
Barnsley have picked up at least two yellow cards in ten of their last 11 matches.
Marley Watkins has now been booked in each of his last FIVE appearances and in seven of his last nine.
Barnsley are now unbeaten in each of their last four visits to Oldham, winning three. They are unbeaten in their last seven home and away, winning five.
