Oldham 1-3 Barnsley

Last updated : 15 March 2015 By Rob Miles (BarnsleyBoy)

Well it had to come to an end sometime didn’t it… After 499 minutes, Barnsley finally conceded a goal BUT The Reds have now won SIX successive league games for the first time in 35 years.

Norman Hunter’s 1980-1981 side, who ended that season promoted from the third tier, defeated Plymouth, Chester, Carlisle, Exeter, Hull and Portsmouth, scoring 15 and conceding two compared to the current crop who have netted 11 and conceded one.

It was a result that moved Barnsley into the play-off positions for the first time since August.

Barnsley have scored as many as three goals in successive matches for the first time in exactly a year.

The Reds have won three successive away matches for the first time since February 2013 when they managed four. However two of those were in the FA Cup. It is the first time they have won three away league games on the bounce for 26 years when they won at Leicester, Manchester City and Plymouth in April 1989.

After managing only one first half goal in six games, Barnsley doubled that tally yesterday. They have though managed only six in the last 16 games.

They scored more than once in the first half for only the fifth time in 36 league games this season.

Barnsley have gone 19 games without a draw, edging ever closer to the 25 without a stalemate between 1st October 2011 and 3rd March 2012.

Lewin Nyatanga grabbed his fourth and fifth goals of the season, comfortably his best ever scoring tally. It is the first time the defender has ever grabbed a brace in his career.

Lee Johnson is the first Barnsley Manager/Head Coach to be unbeaten in his four games since Simon Davey in 2006 but the first to win his four since Allan Clarke in 1978. He won his first five.

Jabo Ibehre became only the second Barnsley substitute to be booked this season. Josh Scowen was the other, 10 games ago.

Lee Johnson substituted the same three players with the same three players as he did last weekend.

Adam Lockwood was only the third opposing player to be sent off against Barnsley this season.

Barnsley enjoyed the most possession for only the fifth time on the road this season.

Barnsley have now won four league games in a row against Oldham, and have done the double over them in each of the last two seasons they have met.

The Reds have scored 15 goals in the past six league clashes, have now netted in each of the past 16 and have lost only one of the last nine.

This however was only their seventh win in 39 visits to Boundary Park.
