Barnsley won for the first time in six league games to move out of the League One relegation zone.
The win extended their impressive form on the road this season. Danny Wilson’s side have now lost just one of their first six away league games of a season for the first time since 2011.
This was only Barnsley’s second clean sheet of the season, both of which have come on the road.
It beats last season’s away clean sheet tally, they managed just one (at Leeds).
Peter Ramage grabbed the only goal, less than 24 hours after re-joining the club on loan from Crystal Palace. It was the 30-year-old defender’s first goal since February 2013 and was the first time Barnsley had scored a first half goal for five matches.
The winner arrived in the 10th minute of the game, the earliest Barnsley have scored since Jim O’Brien netted in the 4th minute against Millwall in February. The Reds also won that game 1-0.
Yesterday was only the third time in Barnsley’s first 10 league matches that they have gone 1-0 up and was only the third time they have led at half-time.
Incredibly it is the first time The Reds have won on the road with a clean sheet since the 1-0 win at Charlton in October 2012. They have won eight away league games since but have conceded in each one (Millwall 2-1, Blackpool 2-1, Middlesbrough 3-2, Brighton 2-1, Reading 3-1, Yeovil 4-1, Charlton 2-1, Crewe 2-1).
Barnsley now have 12 points from their opening 10 matches, their highest total at this stage since they also had 12 from 10 in 2011/2012.
When they were promoted from this league in 2005-2006 they had two points more.
Barnsley have now won three of their last four trips to Spotland and have lost just one of the last seven.
This result ended Rochdale’s three match winning run and was only their second league defeat in six matches.
