Barnsley maintained their push for a play-off spot with a 3-2 away victory over Rushden & Diamonds who now must be worried about being relegated.
Barnsley started the better of the two sides and it was no surprise when they went ahead in the ninth minute when David Murphy struck a fierce free-kick which Billy Turley pushed onto the post but the ball rebounded into the net.
On 15 minutes Stuart Gray made a fine saving tackle on Jacob Burns to prevent the visitors from increasing their lead.
Three minutes later Kevin Betsy had a good chance for the visitors when he found himself clear inside the box but he shot well wide.
Rushden equalised in the 26th minute when skipper Gray hit a low free-kick from 25 yards out which hit the post and rolled into the empty net.
Two minutes later Turley was forced to make a good save to prevent Gary Birch scoring with a powerful header.
On 31 minutes Rushden midfield man Ritchie Hanlon saw his powerful shot go inches wide.
Barnsley went ahead again in the 40th minute when Andrew Edwards missed Steve Hayward's through ball and Betsy took full advantage to slot the ball coolly past Turley.
The visitors increased their lead on the stroke of half-time when Gary Birch scored at the far post after a cross by Burns.
Barnsley continued to create the better chances and Murphy almost put them further ahead in the 50th minute when Turley was forced to save his well struck shot.
Betsy created a good chance in the 65th minute when he rounded Turley but tried to shoot from a narrow angle when he should have pulled the ball back for his on coming forwards.
On 73 minutes Rushden almost pulled a goal back when Gray's header hit the underside of the bar and rebounded into the hands of Marlon Beresford.
Rushden got themselves back into the match in the 81st minute when Beresford failed to hold Hanlon's fierce free-kick and player manager Barry Hunter followed up to shoot home from close range.
