At last, after seven successive defeats Barnsley finally won again on the road. It was their first success away from Oakwell since the 1st November.
That 1-0 victory at Sheffield United was also the last time The Reds managed to keep a clean sheet on the road.
It was Barnsley’s fourth away win of the season, equalling last season’s tally.
Tuesday was the club’s fourth away clean sheet of the season, double what they managed in the Championship last season.
Barnsley opened the scoring away from home for the first time since a 3-1 defeat at Walsall on the 13th December (six away games ago) They have gone 1-0 up in each of their past nine at home.
That game at the Bescot was also the last time they managed as many shots on goal as they did at Glanford Park. They had 13 on Tuesday compared with 15 at Walsall.
The Reds followed up a home win with an away win or vice versa for the first time since (again) November when they followed victory at Bramall Lane with a 3-2 home success against Colchester.
Incredibly Barnsley have managed to keep back to back clean sheets overall for the first time since April 2013 when they drew 0-0 at Nottingham Forest and then beat Hull 2-0.
Astonishingly this is the first time they have managed back to back league wins with back to back clean sheets for FIVE YEARS. In February 2010 they won 2-0 at Cardiff and then defeated Blackpool 1-0 at Oakwell.
Barnsley failed to register a single corner for the first time in 151 league games. A 1-0 defeat at Coventry back in February 2012 was the last time it happened. Ironically it comes a week after registering their highest corner count on the road this season.
A Barnsley match was goalless at half time for the second time in seven matches. This was only the fourth time this season they have gone on to win a game that was goalless at the break.
After 33 successive 90-minute appearances for Conor Hourihane, the Irishman has now either been dropped or substituted from four of the last five.
In all competitions Barnsley have gone 15 games without a draw, their longest run since they went 25 without a stalemate between 1st October 2011 and 3rd March 2012.
Barnsley enjoyed the most possession for only the third time on the road this season.
This was Barnsley’s first ever win at Glanford Park, following two draws and four defeats.
It was The Reds first win at Scunthorpe since 1981 and their first league victory there since 1978.
