Barnsley tasted derby glory at Bramall Lane for the first time in six attempts and only the second time in 17 years.
It is the first time The Reds have won and kept a clean sheet at the Lane since John Hendrie scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory back in the Premier League promotion season of 1996-1997.
Yesterday’s win was The Reds third away win of the season; they won only four in the whole of 2013-2014.
They have now won three of their first eight away matches for the first time since 2009-2010, they failed to win ANY of their first eight last season, losing seven of them compared to two this campaign. It is the first time they have lost as little as two of their first eight on the road since the aforementioned 1996-1997 season when their eighth away match was their first defeat.
Yesterday was Barnsley’s third away clean sheet of the season, all coming in their last five outings. They have conceded just eight times on their travels – only Preston (7) and Notts County (4) have conceded less in League One.
This is in sharp contrast to their home form. They have conceded the joint most home goals in the division.
The Reds went in goal-less at half time for the third time this season; this was the first time they have gone on to win.
Barnsley have now scored in six games in a row, equalling their best run of 2014-2015.
After netting just once in his first 12 appearances for The Reds, Sam Winnall now has four goals in his last six.
That goal means The Reds have only failed to score once in their first nine away games in all competitions, their best away start since 1999 when they only failed to score in one of their first 13.
Ross Turnbull was shown a yellow card yesterday, the first Barnsley goalkeeper to be booked since Luke Steele against Nottingham Forest on the 8th March.
Sheffield United suffered their first defeat in seven games after winning five of the previous six.
It was only their second home league defeat of the season, the first since the opening day and only their second in 12 stretching back to last season.
The Blades failed to score for the first time in 11 games in all competitions and only the second time this season.
It is the first time they have failed to score at Bramall Lane since the 1st April (12 matches)
