Another hard fought away victory sees Barnsley win three successive games in all competitions for the second time this season.
They have lost only one of their last nine away games in all competitions, winning six.
This was Barnsley’s seventh away win of the season (all comps) – 4 league, 1 league cup, 1 EFL Trophy, 1 FA Cup –the most they have won before the New Year of a season since winning eight before the start of 2019 in 2018-2019.
Their four away league wins is there most before Christmas since 2018-2019 when they had won six.
Only two sides in League One have won more away league games than Barnsley so far this season - Ipswich and Sheffield Wednesday have both won six.
The Reds have kept five clean sheets in their nine away league games and their tally of six goals conceded on the road is bettered only by Sheffield Wednesday (5)
Overall this was their eighth league clean sheet with their defensive total of 14 goals conceded the best record in the division along with Bolton.
It is one more league clean sheet than they managed in the whole of last season.
Adam Phillips netted the crucial only goal, the second Barnsley player to score in successive games this season after Josh Benson.
In the last outing against Bolton there were six yellow cards shown, the two teams this week went one better with referee Christopher Pollard brandishing seven (although only two for Barnsley)
It’s the most in a Barnsley game this season and most since the 12th March v Fulham (also 7)
Brad Collins was one of the Reds two bookings which means their goalkeeper has been booked in each of the last two matches.
It is Collins eighth yellow card as a Barnsley keeper.
His booking came after 97 minutes, the latest Barnsley booking since Michal Helik was booked in the same minute against Stoke in March, however it is the fifth yellow card Barnsley have received in the 90th minute or later this season.
This was Barnsley’s eighth league victory of the season and seven of them have been accompanied with clean sheets – a 3-1 victory over Charlton the exception.
Phillips winner was Barnsley's 20th league goal of the season, with 17 games the earliest they have reached this milestone since 2018-2019.
In Barnsley's last League One season (2018-2019) Shrewsbury away was one of only seven defeats in the 46 game campaign however the Reds have now won at the Shrews for the third time in four trips.
A 3-1 reverse in October 2018 is their only defeat there in the past five visits, having lost five in a row there prior.
Home and away Barnsley have now won seven of the last 10 meetings (D1 L2)
Barnsley won a league game despite having less than 50% of the ball possession for the fourth time this season (also v Charlton, Sheffield Wednesday and Bristol Rovers)
Barnsley had 14 shots - their joint most in an away league game this season (also v Wednesday and Morecambe)
For the fifth successive league game Barnsley restricted their opponents to either one shot on target or less (Bolton 1, Morecambe 1, Lincoln 1, Forest Green 0, Shrewsbury 1)
Despite the high number of bookings there were only 16 free-kicks awarded in the game, only v Exeter (12) has there been less in a Barnsley game this season.

Shrewsbury manager Steve Cotterill said:
"We lost the game in the first half. We were not sharp enough today. That is understandable considering the week we have had compared to their week.
"They had a complete week without a game and we have not had hardly any time from the Wednesday night game to turn this one around.
"We lost the game on sharpness. We did not do enough to win it, but we definitely didn't deserve to get beat. We definitely didn't deserve to get beat."
