Barnsley’s unbeaten away start came to an abrupt end as they suffered their heaviest defeat so far in 2024-2025.
Five of Barnsley’s last six defeats in all competitions have seen them concede three goals, three of which have come away from home.
This is the first time in exactly 10 years that a Barnsley league match has been 0-0 at half time and the Reds have gone on to lose by at least three goals, it last occurred on the 27th September 2014 at home to Swindon (also 3-0)
It is Barnsley’s heaviest league defeat since a 5-1 reverse to Lincoln on the 9th March and their biggest on the road since the 11th November 2023 when they lost 3-0 at Derby.
This result ended Barnsley’s 17 game scoring run in all competitions with it being their first blank since a 2-0 home defeat to Cambridge on the 29th March.
It ends a 21 game scoring run on the road with this Barnsley’s first away day blank since the aforementioned Derby defeat.
It is the second successive season that Barnsley’s first away league defeat has been by a 3-0 scoreline.
The Reds have now conceded nine goals in their opening six league games, only four teams have conceded more so far in League One and two of those sides currently occupy the bottom two positions in the table.
However their total of 10 scored is only bettered by the division’s current top two (Wrexham 12, Birmingham 11)
Elliott List scored a brace, the first opponent to net a league double against Barnsley since Alfie May for Charlton on the 6th April (excluding playoffs)
Stevenage had two substitutes yellow carded, the first time this has occurred against the Reds since Bolton had two subs booked at Oakwell on the 5th March.
Barnsley have now had a substitute booked in each of their last five league matches.
This was only the third ever meeting between Barnsley and Stevenage (all of which have occurred in the last two seasons) and Barnsley have now lost two of them – both trips to the Lamex.
This was the first meeting of the three to not finish 2-1 and Barnsley become the first of the two to draw a blank.
Barnsley had 59.1% ball possession, their highest amount of the season and highest since the home play-off tie against Bolton (also 59%)
It is their highest ball possession on the road since the final regular season away game of last season at Blackpool (also 59%)
In each of the last three matches Barnsley have enjoyed 59% possession they have conceded three goals.
There has been 21 shots in each of Barnsley’s last two away matches both of which have ended with a 3-0 scoreline.
Each of Barnsley’s last two matches have produced 17 corners.
There were 32 fouls in the game, the most in a Barnsley match this season and most since the 25th April 2023 against Ipswich (35)
