A 3-0 defeat- the Reds second in a week sent them to the bottom of the table and they now have the worst goal difference in the entire Football League.
Barnsley have gone back-to-back games without scoring for the fourth time this season. They have managed just two goals in their last six outings and it is now seven matches since a Reds striker scored.
Barnsley also continued the worst away record in the Football League. They have picked up just seven points from 17 away league matches this season. The 12 away games they have lost is two more than they suffered in the whole of last season.
The two earliest goals Barnsley have conceded this season have both come against Watford. Christian Battocchio’s effort after five minutes yesterday is the quickest, beating into second place Troy Deeney’s goal after seven minutes at Oakwell back in September.
Jean-Yves Mvoto started a league game for the first time since New Year’s Day. The Frenchman has made 19 appearances for The Reds and they have won just two of those.
Lewin Nyatanga started for just the fourth time this season, and he is yet to be involved in a win this campaign. If you go back to last season when he was at Bristol City it is now 14 matches since the former Welsh international has finished on the winning side.
The Reds have now won just one of their last eight trips to Vicarage Road and this was their fifth successive defeat there.
Watford secured their first league double over Barnsley in 13 seasons. They have scored eight times against The Reds in the two games.
Thankfully the other three teams also in immediate relegation danger, Millwall, Charlton and Yeovil all failed to win. Millwall and Charlton were facing each other and drew 0-0 whilst Yeovil lost 3-0 at QPR.
Combined those four teams have managed just 26 wins in 136 games this season.
