Champions Wigan Athletic rounded off a memorable season in record breaking style with their 29th victory of the campaign to hit the 100-point total.
It was celebration time right from the outset as the home side lay siege to the Barnsley goal, but had to wait until the 13th minute for the goal that set the near 13,000 crowd partying inside the JJB Stadium.
Midfielder Tony Dinning ended a superb flowing move with a 15-yard shot into the bottom corner and it seemed likely that the goal would be the first of many.
But to their credit, it was Barnsley who took the game to the home side and for a brief spell keeper John Filan was in constant action and denied Kevin Betsy and Bruce Dyer with smart saves.
The home side upped the tempo after the break and both Lee McCulloch and Neil Roberts should have scored following great Wigan moves and then man of the match Peter Kennedy brought the save of the game from Barnsley keeper Matt Ghent with a terrific drive.
The celebrations at the final whistle to crown Wigan as champions will go on long into the night and manager Paul Jewell and chairman Dave Whelan have already pledged that the next stop is the Premiership.
