Barnsley 2-0 Crystal Palace

Saturday 7th April 2007. That could yet be the date that defines Barnsley's 2006-2007 season. That was the day Davey's Reds were crushed 5-1 at Ipswich Town and dropped into the Championship relegation zone. That was the day that most fans admitted defeat and started planning for League One.

Since that game The Reds have shown remarkable courage and "bounce-back-ability" to record 3 successive wins for the first time since they beat MK Dons, Nottingham Forest and Bristol City in Jan/Feb 2006!

Now Birmingham, Southend and Crystal Palace are the teams put to the sword to push The Reds five points clear with six left to play for. Quite simply if The Reds win or at least better Leeds' result next weekend then Championship football will remain at Oakwell for another season, as that was the aim back in August, Simon Davey can say job well done.

Today saw a rather annoyed Crystal Palace surprisingly comfortably taken care of- annoyed at the fact they had to travel up to South Yorkshire for a game that means very little to them as they are marooned in midtable until next season -but the job still had to be done and The Reds did it with minimum fuss.

Next up is Leicester City, a team on the same points as Barnsley and who grabbed victory at Preston today with a last-minute winner to give their survival push a much needed shot in the arm.

4 wins in a row hasn't been achieved since Blackpool, Colchester, Torquay and Peterborough were defeated under Paul Hart in Nov/Dec 2004!

Wouldn't next weekend be a great time to change that, ensure Championship safety and push Leeds even closer to League One!

COME ON YOU REDS!!!
